Mud Australia: Collect, Curate, Treasure.
Celebrating Mud Australia’s 30th birthday.
A week-long exhibition across Mud Australia’s London stores for London Craft Week.
The central themes of this campaign were the ocean, legacy, and the enduring power of objects—both physically and emotionally.
We set out to tell the story of Mud Australia’s beginnings on the shores of Sydney, and their journey across oceans to their new home in London. To ground their story in the city’s cultural landscape, we drew on the pastime of mudlarking along the Thames—a once-survivalist practice that’s evolved into a form of personal archaeology.
Titled “Collect, Curate, Treasure,” the campaign explored how crafted items connected us and enriched our environments with meaning. Mud Australia’s clean porcelain was paired with shells and seaweed collected from the beach, as well as mudlarked pipes, stones, and broken pots.
We collaborated with artist Georgie Mason, who works with mudlarked materials and handcrafted paints and pigments from foraged rocks and clays. Georgie led a workshop for Mud Australia during London Craft Week, where participants learned how to make their own paint in the beautiful setting of Mud Australia’s Islington store.
The entire campaign was expressed through still life photographs, a modular publication, window sculptures, and a video.
